Subject : 2006 Census – Population Counts for Toronto CMA

Today, Statistics Canada released the first data from the 2006 Census – Population counts. This release of data provides a comprehensive geographic distribution of where Canadians live.
You can access the information in The Daily, Statistics Canada’s official release bulletin, on our website www.census2006.ca. More census data on population than ever before are available to the public free of charge via the website.
New population figures have been unveiled for Canada and the provinces, and territories, as well as 33 metropolitan areas and more than 6,000 cities, towns, villages and Indian reserves.
Below are a couple of hyperlinks from today’s release which will take you to the tables that contain data specific to your area.

The Census was conducted on May 16, 2006.
Statistics Canada will release further data from the 2006 Census in announcements running from July 2007 through May 2008. The next release, covering data on age and sex, is scheduled for July 17, 2007. Two further releases are scheduled for later this year: marital status, common-law status, families, households and housing and dwelling characteristics (September 12), and language, immigration, citizenship and Mobility and migration (December 4).
