Karygiannis condemns Nazi comments about China calls on Harper to discipline Anders
OTTAWA – The Honourable Jim Karygiannis, Member of Parliament for Scarborough-Agincourt, is calling on Stephen Harper to severely discipline Rob Anders, the Member of Parliament for Calgary West in light of his recent remarks about China.
“First we have the Harper government ignoring our second largest trading partner, now we have one of Harper’s Members comparing members of the Chinese government to the Nazis.” said Mr. Karygiannis. “Once again, members of the Harper government are showing their true Reform colours.”
On his way to the United States of America, Mr. Anders indicated, “I think their record in terms of deaths and atrocities far overshadows those in the Second World War. If you look at the people who were killed during the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural Revolution under Mao, it makes the deaths on the Russian front in the Second World War look small in comparison.”
“Stephen Harper must discipline Rob Anders for these outrageous remarks. He must be kicked out of the Conservative Caucus.” Mr. Karygiannis commented. “If Harper does not discipline Anders, he is, in fact, endorsing what he said. I ask again, why are Stephen Harper and members of his government alienating the China?”
Mr. Anders further stated that no Canadian politician should attend the Olympic Games being held in Beijing.
“Historically, the Olympic Games represent a time of peace – the city states stopped warring and sent their finest athletes to complete.” Mr. Karygiannis further commented. “Today, we should view the Olympic Games as a time for our young people to gather in the spirit of sport – to compete against one another but also to develop friendships, thus furthering peace and tolerance.”
