Wilfert Outraged by the Conservative MP’s Comments on Beijing Olympics
The Honourable Bryon Wilfert, Member of Parliament for Richmond Hill, responded to the recent comments of Conservative MP Rob Anders on the upcoming Olympics in Beijing calling them outrageous.
The Conservative MP for Calgary West is an outspoken critic of China and said on Thursday that he thinks holding the games in Beijing is comparable to holding them in Nazi Germany in 1936.
“For a member of the Conservative Government to suggest that awarding the Olympics to China in any way compares to giving them to Hitler in Nazi Germany is irresponsible,” said Wilfert. “It demonstrates why the Prime Minister doesn’t want his MPs to say anything that hasn’t been approved by his office.”
Wilfert noted that Canada/China relations have deteriorated to a serious degree under the Conservative government and that this latest comment, “emphasizes how badly this government is at dealing with foreign policy issues.”
