An Air Canada passenger jet made an unscheduled landing at Pearson International Airport late Thursday afternoon.
Scott Armstrong, a spokesperson for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, would only say to ctvtoronto.ca that the Boeing 777-300 had suffered mechanical problems.
No one was hurt, and buses were removing the passengers, he said.
CTV Toronto reported that five buses were dispatched.
Air Canada spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick said Flight 31 was destined for Beijing.
Shortly after takeoff, the pilot noted a indicator light showing a flap problem and decided to return to Pearson.
Aircraft are designed to land when they are light on fuel, not heavy. That’s likely why some of the tires blew, he said.
“They’re designed to take it,” Fitzpatrick said, but added it wasn’t an “ideal situation.”
Air Canada hoped to have another aircraft arranged and have the 288 passengers off for Beijing later Thursday evening, Fitzpatrick said.
That flight left at 10 p.m.

The Boeing 777 returned to Pearson but several tires blew on landing.
The plane managed to touch down safely regardless but was left disabled on a taxiway while its passengers were bused back to the terminal.

An Air Canada plane scheduled to fly to Beijing has returned to Pearson following mechanical issues this afternoon.
The plane took off from Toronto around 4:30 p.m. and pilots soon decided to return to the airport.
Air Canada crews are currently servicing the plane and all of the passengers were placed on a shuttle bus and sent back to the terminal to wait for the next flight to Beijing.
No one was injured in the incident.
