（星星生活记者捷克佳、陈明琰报导）这是一个令多伦多举城心碎的日子，华裔女童张东岳神秘失踪案的搜寻工作以悲剧收场。同时，多伦多警方誓言，将缉拿绑架和谋杀张东岳的凶手。
皮尔区警方28日下午宣布，经法医确认，星期六在多市西面的密西沙加市发现的“年轻女性残骸”证实是失踪已久的张东岳。
多伦多市长苗大伟（David Miller）和多伦多警察总长范天奴（Julian Fantino）当日专程前往张家，对这一不幸事件的悲惨结局深表哀悼。
苗大伟说，“没有什么言辞可以表达我对失去小东岳的极度伤心，作为父母和多伦多的市民，我对这一悲剧表示痛心。今夜，这个城市每个人的心都是和张东岳家在一起的。”
范天奴表示，对一个家庭、一个人而言，失去了一个无辜、珍爱的女儿或者孩子将是毁灭性的。范天奴说，“直到将罪犯绳之以法，我们决不言放弃。”
28日晚间10点，张家的律师豪斯（Jeffery House）在张家的门前向媒体宣读一份简短的声明。声明说，天使般女儿的离去令我们悲痛欲绝，希望她的灵魂可以在天堂得以安息。声明中感谢各界对这一事件的关注，并希望能很快将罪犯捕捉归案，绳之以法。

九岁的张东岳于去年10月19日失踪至今已有5个多月，尽管社会各界和警方都全力以赴努力调查和配合寻找，但该案的调查工作一直没有明显进展。小东岳本应在周二渡过她10岁的生日，而警方现已确认了这个所有人最不想听到的噩耗。
据星星生活早前报道，密市一名徒步爱好者在星期六下午2点左右，于密西沙加路（4605 Mississauga Rd）的名为Croatian Martyrs教堂后发现尸体，皮尔区警方凶杀组调查人员接到报警后紧急奔赴现场并展开调查。
皮尔区警方凶杀组Richard DeFacendis在正式公布此消息时表示非常心痛和难过。他表示，经过身份鉴定专家的检验分析结果证实是失踪的张东岳，但是目前警方还不能公布死亡的原因和尸体在该地点的停置的时间，唯一可以透露的是残骸确实在冰雪后藏了一段时间，由于该地点位于距离停车场50-75英尺处一布满灌木的沟内，故很难被发现。他并表示警方已经派专员继续对案件展开调查。
皮尔区警方呼吁曾途经该处的市民，若发现任何携带可疑物品的人士，于发现人体残肢现场出现，应立即致电（905）453-2121内线3205与皮尔区警方凶杀组人员联络。
