The BCATP used the following types of aircraft for training:<\/p>\n<p>Airspeed Oxford<br \/>\nAvro Anson<br \/>\nBoeing Stearman<br \/>\nBristol Bolingbroke<br \/>\nCessna Crane<br \/>\nDe Havilland Tiger Moth<br \/>\nFairchild Cornell<br \/>\nFairey Battle<br \/>\nFairey Swordfish<br \/>\nFleet Finch<br \/>\nNoorduyn Norseman<br \/>\nNorth American Harvard<br \/>\nNorth American Yale<br \/>\nStinson 105<br \/>\nWestland Lysander<br \/>\nNorthrop Nomad <\/p>\n<p><strong>Facilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Training Command Headquarters<\/p>\n<p>The BCATP operated four major commands:<\/p>\n<p>1. Toronto, Ontario, with responsibility for all Ontario facilities except those in the far southeastern and northwestern ends of the province.<\/p>\n<p>2. Winnipeg, Manitoba, with responsibility for facilities in northwestern Ontario, Manitoba, and part of Saskatchewan.<\/p>\n<p>3. Montreal, Quebec, with responsibility for facilities in far southeastern Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes.<\/p>\n<p>4. Regina, Saskatchewan, with responsibility for British Columbia, Alberta, and part of Saskatchewan.<\/p>\n<p>Central Flying School<\/p>\n<p>The Central Flying School was located in Trenton, Ontario, which still hosts a major military airbase, CFB Trenton.<\/p>\n<p>Central Navigation School<\/p>\n<p>The Central Navigation School was located in Rivers, Manitoba (Anson).<\/p>\n<p>Instrument Navigation School<\/p>\n<p>The Instrument Navigation School was located near Deseronto, Ontario, at what is currently Tyendinaga (Mohawk) Airport.<\/p>\n<p>Manning Depots<\/p>\n<p>The BCATP had two principal Manning Depots:<\/p>\n<p>1. Toronto, Ontario<\/p>\n<p>2. Brandon, Manitoba<\/p>\n<p>Initial Training School<\/p>\n<p>Recruits started their training with a few weeks at an Initial Training School, to learn the basics of military life.<\/p>\n<p>1. Toronto, Ontario<\/p>\n<p>2. Regina, Saskatchewan<\/p>\n<p>3. Victoriaville, Quebec (Finch and Moth)<\/p>\n<p>4. Edmonton, Alberta<\/p>\n<p>5. Belleville, Ontario<\/p>\n<p>6. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan &#8211; currently Saskatoon John G. Diefenbaker International Airport<\/p>\n<p>Elementary Flying Training Schools<\/p>\n<p>An Elementary Flying Training School (EFTS) gave a recruit 50 hours of basic aviation instruction on a simple trainer like the Moth or Finch. Pilots who showed promise went on to advanced training at a Service Flying Training School. Others went on to different specialties, such as wireless, navigation or bombing and gunnery.<\/p>\n<p>1.
