STATEMENT OF DR. JOSEPH KA-HOI WONG<\/strong><\/p>\n

I have been charged with allegations of professional misconduct, which have been widely reported. I will not have the chance to prove my innocence until the hearing of this matter in January 2008, but I would like my friends and colleagues, the supporters of Smile China and my other community involvements, and the members of my community to know that I have been falsely accused of having sexual relations with a patient.<\/p>\n

The woman who has accused me of this conduct was my patient from January 2001 to July 2004. The day following a cosmetic procedure in January 2003, I made a house call at the patient’s request to follow up a potential complication of surgery. This is a standard of practice for cosmetic surgert when dealing with a potential complication. The patient returned to see me after that time for a number of furture procedures over the next 10 months, and I thought that she was happy with my work.<\/p>\n

In October 2005 the complainant called me making certain threats and demanding money. Acease and desist letter was issued by my lawyers. In November 2005, she made a complaint to the College. In March 2007 I was notified that I had been charged with the allegations set out in the Notice of Hearing.<\/p>\n

I am confident that at my hearing in January 2008, the truth of this matter will be revealed and I will be exonerated.<\/p>\n
